Blockchain For Social Good Intervarsity Ideation Competition

Do you have an idea for how you can make the world a better place using blockchain technology? AlgoHUB and Algorand Foundation’s Centre for Excellence on Sustainability Informatics for the Pacific (ACE -SIP) invite you to participate in the Blockchain for Good Ideation Intervarsity competition.

This competition is all about ‘Blockchain for Social Good’, it’s time for students to showcase their innovative ideas for projects that could be built on the Algorand blockchain. There will be no building required for this competition; it will be purely a business case.

You’ll need to form a team of 2-4 participants and pitch your project to a judging panel of industry experts at the competition, the finals will be held in person on Monday the 25th of September at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. The semi finals and all other sessions will take place online.

This competition is open for all students. Whether you are a computer science student, a marketing student, an arts student or a economics student, all students from multi disciplines are welcome to participate. Our goal is to create a diverse and inclusive community where everyone can contribute their unique ideas about how we can make the world a better place using blockchain technology.

What is Algorand?

Algorand is a proof of stake blockchain focused on decentralising trust and ensuring low fees and fast transactions. The Algorand Blockchain is Fast, Secure and Green. Algorand is known to be the sustainable blockchain, given its carbon negative status.

What is ACE SIP?

ACE-SIP is a multi-university team advancing blockchain research and education in environmental, governmental, and social sustainability in the Pacific Region. ACE-SIP stands for algorand’s centre of excellence and sustainability informatics for the Pacific region.  For more information https://ace-sip.org/How long is the competition?   • Week 24th July 2023 – Zoom information session
  • Registration closes – 31st July 2023
  • Week 1 – 7th August 2023 – meeting with Mentors and kick off session
  • Week 2 – 14th August 2023 – meeting with Mentors and communicating with impact session
  • Week 3 – 21st August 2023 – meeting with Mentors (deck and video pointers)
  • Week 4 – 28th August 2023 – final submission and video pitch due – judging and shortlisted teams
  • Week 5 – 4th September 2023 – announce semi finalists plus practice with Mentors / pitch presentation
  • Week 6 – 11th September 2023(Semi Finals) [online] – announce finalists
  • Week 7 – 25th September 2023 – Finals in Melbourne at Clayton Campus – 10 teams to present, budget for 1 team per uni to be in finals

The blockchain business case competition is only open to students, please apply and we can match you with a team.

What if I can’t program?

You don’t need to program for this event, it is purely an ideation session on the best business case.

What are the prizes?

The overall winner will receive $3000 AUD in Algos
2nd place will win $2000 AUD in Algos
3rd place will win $1000 AUD in Algos

Will I be assigned a mentor?

Yes you will be given a list of mentors which you will be able to contact for assistance.
